Your dresses should be tight enough to show you're a woman and loose enough to show you're a lady - Edith Head

As I was getting dressed to go to a nice dinner with my parents the above quote from Edith Head ran through my mind. So I decided to wear a form fitting, fully covered ensemble. It was an attempt to display what little ASSets I have been blessed with.

The first post of this blog is dedicated to Edith Head, a women who embodied class, brains, and style, in a time when women were not embraced in the working world. Basically she was the shit. Edith received a bachelors degree from UC Berkeley and a masters from Stanford… with honors.

Before dominating Hollywood as a costume designer, she was a French teacher (whoever said “those who can, do, and those who can’t, teach” had never met Edith Head.) Among her credentials lies eight Academy Awards with thirty-five nominations. Her designs graced the shoulders of the best actresses of her time (1945-1976) including; Carmen Miranda, Katherine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Loretta Young, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Doris Day, Rita Hayworth, Sophia Loren, Natalie Wood, and Grace Kelly (to name a few)… omfg.

In the late 1970’s (making her approximately 80 years old) Edith was commissioned to design a woman’s uniform for the United States Coast Guard. She was quoted saying it was one of the highlights of her career (even though she was a native of Prussia). This woman personified everything I admire in a fashionista. She carried herself with poise, and achieved greatness with all odds against her. I salute you Edith, shall all women live by your wise words. Thanks for the inspiration.

 all things with love
